Uncovering My Enneagram Superpower (and Saying “No” Without Guilt) with Tracy O’Malley

Last winter, I went on a retreat that ended up being much more than just a break from the hustle—it was a deep dive into the inner workings of my personality. That’s where I met Tracy O’Malley, an Enneagram expert whose insight and presence blew me away.

For those unfamiliar, the Enneagram is a powerful framework that maps out nine core personality types. Each type reflects how we see the world, manage stress, connect with others, and—most importantly—how we grow. Think of it as the roadmap to understanding your inner motivations, fears, and strengths.

I discovered I’m a Type 7—the Enthusiast, the Visionary.

What Motivates a Type 7?

⚡️Choices

⚡️Freedom

⚡️Options

What Triggers a Type 7?

⚡️Feeling deprived

⚡️Being trapped in emotional pain

⚡️Having limited options

With Tracy as my guide, I finally understood why I’m always chasing the next idea, the next adventure, the next anything—because possibilities fuel me. But I also saw why I sometimes struggle to slow down, sit with discomfort, or say “No,” especially when it risks disappointing others.

Tracy’s Enneagram coaching opened up something deeper for me. I realized I’m not just a 7 in a vacuum—I’m also surrounded by Type 2s, The Helpers. They give endlessly, and I love them for it, but it also forced me to look at my own challenges with boundaries.

As I’ve matured—through life, loss, burnout, and the pursuit of happiness—I’ve started to embrace one unexpected joy: the power of saying “No.” Not out of spite or rebellion, but out of self-preservation and truth. It’s a shift that’s given me clarity, confidence, and a whole lot of freedom (which, of course, us 7s love!).

I knew I had to have Tracy as the first guest on Carrie On! to unpack all of this, especially around the topic of boundaries—how we set them, break them, and rebuild them with purpose.
